Terms of Use

These terms govern your use of ChatYYC. By using the site, you agree to them.

1. What this service is

ChatYYC provides two things: an AI assistant that answers questions about Calgary, Alberta, and editorial guides about the city. The service is provided for general information and entertainment.

2. AI-generated answers are not advice

The assistant is not a source of professional advice, and nothing it produces constitutes legal, medical, financial, tax, safety, immigration or other professional advice. It is not an official channel of any government, city, transit authority or emergency service, and it cannot submit anything on your behalf.

For anything time-sensitive or consequential — fares, fees, schedules, deadlines, permits, bylaws, health or safety matters — verify the detail against the official source. In an emergency, contact the appropriate emergency service directly. Never delay seeking help because of something the assistant said.

3. Editorial content

Our guides are written by people and reviewed before publication. They are provided for general information. Civic details change, so always confirm against the official source linked in the guide before acting on a specific figure, rule or deadline.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the service for anything unlawful, or to harass, threaten or harm others.
  • Attempt to disrupt, overload, scrape at scale, or circumvent rate limits or security controls on the service.
  • Attempt to extract system instructions, or use the service to generate content that is unlawful, defamatory or infringing.
  • Use automated means to access the service in a way that imposes unreasonable load.

We may rate limit, suspend or block access where we reasonably believe these terms are being breached.

5. Advertising and outbound links

The site is funded by display advertising. We do not use affiliate links, and we receive no commission from any outbound link.

Advertising does not influence editorial content. Advertisers do not review, approve or pay for inclusion, and do not influence what we say. See our editorial standards for detail.

6. Third-party sites and services

Outbound links lead to sites we do not control. We are not responsible for their content, products, availability or privacy practices, and linking to them is not an endorsement. Third-party purchases are governed by that provider’s own terms.

7. Intellectual property

The site’s editorial guides, design and original content are protected by copyright. You may read, quote briefly with attribution and a link, and share links freely. You may not republish our guides in full or use them to train models without permission. Third-party trademarks referenced on the site belong to their respective owners.

8. Availability

We provide the service on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not guarantee that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any answer will be accurate. Features may change or be withdrawn. AI responses depend on third-party providers and fallback behaviour when those providers are unavailable.

9. Disclaimer and limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties not expressly stated in these terms. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses, or for loss of profits, data or opportunity arising from your use of the site or reliance on any answer it generates.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. Continued use of the site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.
