Privacy Policy

This policy explains what ChatYYC collects, why, and who else is involved in handling it.

The short version

  • You do not need an account to use this site.
  • Your conversation history is stored in your own browser, not in a database we operate.
  • Questions you ask are sent to third-party AI providers to generate an answer. Do not submit sensitive personal information in chat.
  • We collect anonymous technical and aggregate usage data to run and improve the site.
  • Advertising on this site is served by Google.

What we collect

Questions you ask the assistant

When you send a message, the text is transmitted to our servers and then to third-party AI providers to generate a response. Before answering, we also use your question to look up relevant local context in our knowledge base. This processing is necessary to provide the feature you are using.

We also keep short-lived operational data about requests — the question text, response length, which model answered, latency, and a short-lived response cache keyed on the question — so the service is fast and does not spend money re-answering identical questions. This operational data is held in server memory and is not written to a durable database; it is lost when the service restarts or redeploys.

Conversation history in your browser

Your chat sessions are saved in your browser’s local storage so you can return to them. This history stays on your device and is not transmitted to us for storage. Clearing your browser data removes it. Because it lives in your browser, anyone with access to your device and browser profile could read it.

Technical and usage data

When you use the site we record limited technical information for security, abuse prevention and aggregate statistics:

  • IP address, used for rate limiting and abuse prevention.
  • Browser and device information (your user agent string).
  • The page or external site that referred you.
  • Approximate location derived from your IP address at the network level — typically city, region and country. We do not collect precise location, and we do not ask for your device’s GPS location.
  • Aggregate usage events, such as which city section you visited and which outbound partner links were clicked.

This data is held in server memory in aggregate form and is not used to build a personal profile of you or to serve you advertising on this site.

Information you send us directly

If you use the feedback or report form, we receive what you submit: the question and answer you are reporting on, your description of the issue, any email address you choose to provide, and basic diagnostic details such as your device type, viewport size and the page URL. We use this to investigate and fix problems, and to reply to you if you asked us to. Submitting an email address is optional.

Cookies and similar technologies

We do not set our own tracking cookies. Third parties may set cookies or similar technologies when you use this site:

  • Google advertising. Pages with editorial content load Google AdSense, which may use cookies or device identifiers to serve and measure advertising. Google’s handling of that data is governed by Google’s own policies.
  • Outbound links. If you follow a link to a ticketing, reservation, tour or accommodation provider, that provider may set its own cookies and will handle your data under its own privacy policy. Our outbound links carry no affiliate or tracking parameters.

You can control or block cookies through your browser settings. Blocking them may affect how advertising is displayed but will not prevent you from using the assistant or reading our guides.

Who else processes your data

We use third-party providers to operate the site. Each processes data under its own terms:

  • Hosting and content delivery — our hosting provider processes requests and technical metadata to serve the site.
  • AI model providers — the text of your questions and relevant conversation context are sent to large language model providers to generate answers.
  • Vector search — your question is used to retrieve relevant local context from our knowledge base.
  • Advertising — Google, for display advertising on editorial pages.
  • Email delivery — transactional email providers, used only to deliver feedback you choose to submit to our team.

How long we keep things

  • Operational request data and anonymous usage aggregates: held in memory for a short period and discarded on restart.
  • Conversation history: on your device until you clear it.
  • Feedback you send us: retained in our inbox for as long as needed to resolve the issue and keep a record of it.

Your choices and rights

We are based in Canada and handle personal information in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) where it applies. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, and to withdraw consent to its processing.

Because we hold very little personal information, in practice most requests concern feedback you have submitted. To make a request, contact us at hello@chatyyc.com and we will respond within a reasonable period.

Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect the data we handle, including encrypted connections and access controls on administrative systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service changes. Material changes will be reflected on this page. If we begin collecting data in a materially different way, we will describe it here rather than leaving this page out of date.
